An Ultherapy transducer does not belong on the disposables shelf of a parts catalog. The manufacturer's Instructions for Use tell the operator to clean and disinfect the transducer between patients rather than discard it, so one unit keeps working after the appointment ends. What retires it instead is a counter built into the system, and the unit that counter measures is the treatment line. The screen shows lines remaining beside the transducer's total line capacity, and in the manufacturer manuals checked for this page that capacity appears as a screen field, so ask the supplier for the number in writing. What follows maps the six variants the system accepts and sets out what the official channel publishes in place of a price. It then works through how to read a resale listing that sells a counter reading.
Why an Ultherapy transducer is not a single-use part
Ultherapy DeepSEE transducers are multi-patient parts, because the manufacturer's Instructions for Use tell the operator to clean and disinfect the transducer between patients with a 70% isopropyl alcohol prep pad instead of discarding it. The PRIME Instructions for Use repeat the instruction, so the fact rests on two manuals. Unit count is therefore the wrong way to size an order. For fit across device generations, see does a newer cartridge fit an older device.
The device registry matches the manuals in the records whose use flags were confirmed for this page. The GUDID record for UT-1 Rev N describes the device as multiple use and non-sterile, with "No Sterilization Methods Found", and the UT-2 Rev O record matches it. Of the five brands compared here, Ultherapy, Thermage, Morpheus8, Vivace and Sylfirm X, the Ultherapy transducer is the only consumable its maker's documentation describes as multi-use; for the other four, the clearance document describes a single-use or single-patient device, including Morpheus8, whose clearance separates single-use tips from a multi-use applicator handle (see Morpheus8 tips and handpieces).
Which DeepSEE transducers the system takes
Six transducers work with one control unit, and they differ by frequency, treatment depth and footprint width, from DS 10-1.5 at 10 MHz and 1.5 mm to DS 4-4.5 at 4 MHz and 4.5 mm. The mapping below comes from the manufacturer's Instructions for Use, which pairs every DS designation with a UT code, and the two "N" variants sit at the same frequency and depth as their base models with nothing changed but a narrower patient contact footprint.
| Model | UT designation | Frequency | Treatment depth | Footprint |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| DS 7-3.0 | UT-1 | 7 MHz | 3.0 mm | standard |
| DS 7-3.0N | UT-1N | 7 MHz | 3.0 mm | narrow |
| DS 4-4.5 | UT-2 | 4 MHz | 4.5 mm | standard |
| DS 7-4.5 | UT-3 | 7 MHz | 4.5 mm | standard |
| DS 10-1.5 | UT-4 | 10 MHz | 1.5 mm | standard |
| DS 10-1.5N | UT-4N | 10 MHz | 1.5 mm | narrow |
Section 3.3.4 of the April 2026 PRIME manual names every one of them as compatible with the PRIME control unit. The console generation therefore moved on without the consumable moving with it. The same part carries the imaging function, which FDA clearance K243035 describes as ultrasonic visualization of depths up to 8 mm below the surface. An Ultherapy installation is a control unit, a handpiece and these six interchangeable transducers, and the transducer is the part the line counter retires.
How the line counter sets the wear limit
A transducer is retired by its line counter rather than by the number of patients it has treated, and the system enforces that by showing Code L and refusing to continue once the remaining count reaches zero. The manual prints the screen field as "Number of treatment lines remaining/total treatment line capacity of transducer" and words the alarm as an instruction, "Transducer out of lines Please replace transducer and continue". The limit therefore sits inside the device rather than in the part designation, which is the opposite of a brand that writes the wear limit into the part number. A Thermage treatment tip carries its REP count in the catalog number itself, as in TTNS3.00C1-600 and TT4.00F6-900, so the limit is in the part number, while an Ultherapy buyer has to read it off the screen.
Stock is therefore counted in lines, not units. Four transducers with low counters are not the supply position that two full ones give you, and the counter reading is also what makes two prices comparable, so a quotation naming a model and a price without a counter state describes an object rather than a quantity. Because Code L lands mid-session, the counter belongs in the reorder trigger and not only in the annual budget.
What the manuals record about total line capacity
Three manufacturer Instructions for Use, dated October 2021, April 2024 and April 2026, describe the total line capacity as a field on the screen, so get the figure a clinic needs to cost a transducer from the supplier in writing. These are the records checked:
- 1015107IFU Rev A, October 2021, on the manufacturer's own domain
- 1015107IFU Rev 05, April 2024, Ulthera System
- 1016272IFU Rev 00, April 2026, Ultherapy PRIME
- FDA 510(k) decisions K134032 of June 20, 2014, K233996 of February 22, 2024 and K243035 of February 24, 2025
The figure the market quotes appears in seller listing copy, as in the Offer Aesthetic title "Ulthera Transducer Orange DS 10-1.5 Expired Full 2400 Lines Remaining for Sale" and the MNML Aesthetics title "NEW w/ 2400 lines". Ask the supplier to state the capacity for the named model in writing and to name the document and revision it comes from. Treat that figure as covering the named variant alone, and ask whether the same number applies to the other five.
What the device registry identifies
The FDA device registry lists these transducers by model and revision letter, and the one part number found for this page, 87021 for the DS 7-3.0, appears on a seller's product page, so ask Merz whether 87021 is its own catalog number. The registry supplies the model and revision designation, two FDA product codes, OHV and IYO, the GMDN term for an extracorporeal ultrasound hyperthermia system transducer, a distribution status and a link back to FDA clearance K134032. Ask Merz whether it sells the transducer in any package configuration above the single unit.
Identify the part by its DS designation and its UT code with the revision letter, because the manual pairs the DS designation with the UT code and the registry adds the revision letter. When a seller's page shows a part number, such as the 87021 that the Pipeline Medical product page lists for this transducer, put it next to the registry entry before accepting it as an identifier. Revision letters also carry distribution status, and the older DS 7-3.0 record for UT-1 Rev G is marked "Not in Commercial Distribution" while the UT-1 Rev N record is marked "In Commercial Distribution", so a revision letter on a quotation is supply information. For other brands, see the catalog number cross reference for six brands and who sells Vivace tips.
What the official channel publishes instead of a price
Merz's own Terms and Conditions dated September 15, 2026 say that individual product pricing and applicable discounts will be listed on the subsequent Merz invoice, and the ultherapy.com physician support page, read on September 18, 2026, routes orders to an orders address and a phone number. Three substitutes appear where a figure would be.
- an orders address and a phone number on the physician support page, with a registration path for the practice
- individual pricing and discounts listed on the subsequent Merz invoice, while packaged pricing may be quoted or shown on the sales agreement page
- a reservation that future purchase prices may change without notice
Outside Merz's own pages, the Pipeline Medical product page, read on September 18, 2026, holds its price behind a login "available for registerd members only" and marks the part "currently unavailable".
Two further provisions shape a first order. Merz's terms mention transducers in the product list and in the training provisions, where complimentary training carries "limitations on complimentary transducer use" and the practice supplies transducers for additional paid training sessions at its own expense, but they do not say whether any transducers come with the purchase of a system, so ask Merz to write into the quote whether any come with the console. Every order is also subject to Merz's credit approval of the customer, which makes the commercial relationship rather than the catalog the thing that governs availability. For who may order these parts at all, see who can buy professional aesthetic consumables in the US. To get a comparable number, ask for the unit price of one named model with its revision letter, whether it assumes a minimum quantity, and on which invoice line the discount appears.
How seller listings price the lines that are left
Seller listings outside Merz's own pages, checked September 19, 2026, show one seller's expired stock at exactly $0.50 per remaining line whether the listing puts 690 on the counter or calls it a full load, against $1.24 per line on a new unit listed elsewhere. Every line count below is a statement the seller makes about one specific unit, not a capacity published by the manufacturer, and each price per line is worked out from the seller's own number.
| Seller | Model and condition | Lines the seller states | Asking price (checked 09/19/2026) | Price per line from the seller's stated count |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Offer Aesthetic product page | DS 10-1.5, expired | 690 | $345.00 | $0.50 |
| Offer Aesthetic product page | DS 10-1.5, expired | listing title reads "Expired Full 2400 Lines Remaining" | $1,200.00 | $0.50 |
| MNML Aesthetics product page | DS 7-4.5, new | listing title reads "NEW w/ 2400 lines" | $2,965.00 | $1.24 |
| MRP listing page | DS 7-3.0, used, signs of wear noted | 678 | $749.00 | $1.10, rounded |
| Rock Bottom Lasers | DS 4-4.5, new, sealed | ask Rock Bottom Lasers | $2,195.00 | cannot be worked out |
| MedShift Ulthera store page | all six variants, new | ask MedShift | $2,340.00 | cannot be worked out |
Two variables move at once here, the counter reading and the expiration date, and the first seller shows what happens when one is held constant. Offer Aesthetic prices expired stock at $0.50 a line at both ends of the counter, $345.00 across 690 lines and $1,200.00 across what the listing calls a full load, so at that seller the price follows the counter. The rate per line is higher at the two other sellers that state a count, since MNML Aesthetics asks $2,965.00 for a new DS 7-4.5 listed as "NEW w/ 2400 lines", which is $1.24 a line, and MRP asks $749.00 for a used DS 7-3.0 listed with 678 lines, or about $1.10 a line.
Ask MedShift for the line count of each variant it quotes. Get the counter reading in writing for the serial number being shipped, get the expiration date printed on the pouch rather than a statement about stock age, and expect some sellers to check who you are, since MRP states that it will verify your status as an authorized purchaser of this item before shipping.
What Merz's own terms say about reselling a transducer
Merz's Terms and Conditions dated September 15, 2026 prohibit the re-sale, rental or leasing of products, which is the document to read before treating a partly used transducer bought outside Merz as an ordinary supply purchase. The prohibition binds the customer buying from Merz, which the document defines as the purchasing aesthetic medical practice together with its supervising physicians, medical directors and staff. That customer is also barred from selling or transferring products to third parties for "uses unauthorized by Merz (e.g., refurbishment, modification, diversion, counterfeiting, etc.)", and the return terms state that in no event will promotional or expired product be returnable or replaced by Merz.
Separately from that document, a live market in partly used units exists, so ask any seller outside Merz in writing how it obtained the unit. On the expiration date, the manual instructs the operator to always check the date before using and states that expired transducers should not be used, so ask a seller of an expired unit to name the document behind any statement about use after that date.
Before a secondhand order, settle who may take delivery first, because the Instructions for Use carry the federal restriction of this device to sale by or on the order of a physician, printed in capitals, and the MNML Aesthetics product page carries its own notice, "Federal (USA) law restricts (and state law may restrict) this medical device to sale." Then ask for the serial number with the counter reading as a written figure, and for the revision letter the model carries. For the legal status of a specific listing, ask Merz in writing and take advice from your own counsel.
Before you set two offers side by side, get those answers in writing rather than as a verbal assurance on a sales call. With those in hand you can request a quote and compare any figure you receive with the seller figures above.
FAQ
How much does an Ultherapy transducer cost?
Under Merz's terms of September 15, 2026, a transducer's price and any discount appear on the Merz invoice that follows the order, and the public figures found for this page are seller asking prices, running from $345.00 for an expired DS 10-1.5 with 690 lines on the counter to $2,965.00 for a new DS 7-4.5, both checked September 19, 2026. Rock Bottom Lasers lists a new DS 4-4.5 at $2,195.00, marked down from $2,300.00 on the same listing and carrying a 90-day seller warranty, also checked September 19, 2026.
Can an expired transducer still be used?
The manufacturer's manual bars use past the expiration date and asks the operator to check that date before each use, and Merz's terms of September 15, 2026 state that expired product is not returnable or replaceable by Merz. The manuals also set a narrower storage range for transducers alone, 15 to 30 °C, than for the system without transducers, minus 20 to 65 °C. For reading the label date, see batch codes, expiry dates and storage, and for the check at receipt, see how to check an aesthetic device consumable on delivery.
Does the same transducer fit Ultherapy PRIME and the earlier system?
The registry records for UT-1 Rev N, UT-2 Rev O and UT-4 Rev G point back to clearance K134032 from June 20, 2014, while the control unit sold as PRIME holds a separate and later clearance of its own, so the part did not change generation with the console. The manual issued for PRIME in April 2026 lists all six variants, UT-1 through UT-4N, as working with that control unit. For the console itself, see Ultherapy PRIME machine cost.
