Four manufacturer documents read for this page on September 24, 2026, two sets of US terms of sale and two instructions for use, tie the device warranty to a start date, to the buyer they name and to who may service the device, and one of them also names the channel the device has to be bought through for its warranty to apply. The terms of sale are Merz's for Ultherapy DeepSEE and PRIME, version 09/15/2026, and InMode's US addendum to its Customer Purchase Agreement, with the dates 2023/09/19 and 2026/07/22 on the page. The manuals are the SkinPen Precision manual PN#P5SP064.00 and the SkinStylus MD instructions 1900194-C. The Ulthera System manual 1015107IFU Rev 05 (04-2024) adds its chapter 4.2 on equipment care and transducers. A clinic steps outside the manufacturer's channel when it buys a used system, sends a device to someone else for service, buys parts or accessories from a third party or orders consumables, and the sections below take these cases in that order.

What each document ties the warranty to

Each document starts the warranty from its own event, which is why the date you ask a seller for differs by device: Merz's terms count from the date the customer purchases the System unless the signed agreement says otherwise, InMode's US terms from the date of the first shipment of the System, and the SkinPen Precision and SkinStylus manuals from the original purchase date.

Warranty period, holder, service, channel and consumables in four manufacturers' documents, read September 24, 2026

(Section 6) Rev 05 manual, chapter 4.2: transducers damaged by a drop or a punctured membrane "are not covered by the warranty"
InMode Systems (US) InMode Terms and Conditions Addendum to Customer Purchase Agreement, page dated 2023/09/19 and 2026/07/22 System: "twelve (12) months from the date of Company's first shipment" (Section III(a)) the customer "as the original purchaser of the System" handpiece warranty clause: "Any warranty stated herein is null and void" when a person other than an authorized Company service representative services the System no InMode warranty on products ordered through InMode and bought from third parties consumables and accessories: thirty days from the date of shipment (Section III(c))

Buying a system second hand

Each of the four documents limits the warranty to the buyer it names, which is the point to settle before you buy a system second hand: InMode's US terms give the System warranty to the customer "as the original purchaser," the SkinPen Precision manual says the warranty "extends only to the original purchaser and purchase date," the SkinStylus manual gives it "ONLY to the original purchaser," and Merz calls its Section 8 warranties "personal to Customer" and "nontransferable."

InMode's US addendum goes further than the warranty sentence. It defines the Services as those provided "to Customer related to the System as part of a capital equipment sale" and says they "may not be transferred," and its No Assignment clause states that "the Customer Purchase Agreement is not transferable or assignable by Customer" unless the agreement provides otherwise or the parties agree in writing. A separate sentence bars the customer from transferring, pledging or encumbering the System "while any amount due on the System is owed by Customer to Company." Ask the seller of a used InMode system for the date InMode first shipped it and a written statement on whether anything is still owed to InMode for it.

Because chapter 11 of the SkinPen Precision manual pairs the one-year term with both the original purchaser and the purchase date, ask the seller of a used pen for the first invoice, with the buyer's name and the date on it, and compare both with what you are being told. For buying a new SkinPen, see SkinPen: where to buy and how to order.

The SkinStylus MD instructions 1900194-C state "IMPORTANT: Purchasers must register their device within 30 days of purchase." Ask the seller whether the device was registered and in whose name, and ask Hydrafacial in writing what that registration means for a device that has changed owners.

Merz's terms define the Customer as the purchasing practice together with its supervising physician(s), medical director(s) and staff. See also Ultherapy machine cost.

Service, installation and unpacking by someone else

The handpiece warranty clause of InMode's US terms states "Any warranty stated herein is null and void" and names, among its cases, a System "unpacked, installed, serviced, and/or repaired by person(s) other than an authorized Company service representative."

The clause stands under the heading "INMODE RF & IPL & LASER Handpiece Warranty" in Section III. Its second case is service made necessary by a "failure to operate or maintain the System in an manner consistent with the specifications" of the operator's manual, and its third is "alteration, and/or modification of the System by person(s) other than an authorized Company service representative," together with disassembly. The reading for this page did not establish whether "herein" refers to the handpiece clause alone. Section III(b), a separate provision, makes the warranty void immediately and automatically when the customer improperly uses, handles, transports, maintains or alters the System, or allows a third party to do so, including "any attempt to repair, replace, or otherwise remediate the affected System independently from Company." If a used InMode system comes with installation by the seller, ask InMode before the visit whether that technician is an authorized Company service representative.

Section 8(D) of Merz's terms reads "Merz is the only authorized service provider for the Equipment." and prohibits repair by anyone else. Before any of that Equipment goes to an outside workshop, check that sentence against the service contract you hold, since the same section says unauthorized service voids service contracts as well as warranties.

The SkinPen Precision manual handles the same situation as exclusions, not as a void clause. Chapter 11 excludes defects from "installation by anyone other than factory authorized personnel" and "Attempted or actual dismantling, disassembling, service, or repair not specifically authorized by Crown Aesthetics," and the manual adds "There are no user serviceable parts." The SkinStylus MD instructions list "Servicing by unauthorized persons" among the causes of damage the warranty excludes. For either pen, ask the service provider to name the Crown Aesthetics or Hydrafacial authorization it works under before you hand over the device.

The Ulthera System manual 1015107IFU Rev 05 (04-2024), chapter 4.2, asks for clean, dry handpiece connectors and forbids using a transducer after its connectors have been immersed, then states "Caution: Failure to observe these precautions may void the warranty." The same chapter says "The Ulthera® System has no user-serviceable components." and sends service questions to Ulthera, Inc. Before you give a system to anyone for service, or buy one with installation included, check who its document allows to unpack, install and repair it.

Parts, accessories and products from outside the channel

InMode's US terms give no InMode warranty on products, equipment or services that InMode orders on the customer's behalf and the customer buys from third parties, and they send the customer to the agreement with that third party for any warranty and remedies on products bought from it.

The sentence on third-party products in the same terms covers them whether or not InMode placed the order: the third party's terms apply, and the "Customer's sole and exclusive warranty and remedies with respect to such products or equipment" come from the agreement with that party. Section III(c) sets a separate term for replacement parts of the System, other than consumables and accessories, bought after the warranty has ended, which are "warranted for a period of ninety (90) days from the date of shipment from Company." Before you order an InMode part from anyone, ask who will ship it and whose written terms will cover it, and keep InMode's shipping document when the part comes from InMode.

The SkinStylus MD instructions 1900194-C make the channel part of the warranty itself. Next to the original-purchaser condition, the "Warranty Policy" section limits it to purchases "from Hydrafacial LLC" or its authorized distributor, and it excludes damage from "Use with unauthorized accessories." See also SkinPen vs other pens.

Section 6 of Merz's terms, "Use and Transfer of Products," states "Merz prohibits the re-sale, rental, or leasing of Products." When the section is violated, "any Product-related limited warranties or service contacts in effect are automatically void," and Merz may also cancel orders, refuse to sell and remove the customer from its physician locator and Xperience+ programs. The paragraph on intellectual property in the same section lists "Customer's use of Products other than those purchased directly from Merz" among acts that would cause Merz immediate and irreparable harm. Before you buy a Merz product from anyone other than Merz, ask Merz in writing how Section 6 applies to that purchase.

Before you buy a part or a used system outside the manufacturer's channel, read the warranty section of the document that covers your device, its terms of sale or its instructions for use, because the period, the date it starts, the buyer it is given to and what the manufacturer excludes are written there.

What the warranty sections say about consumables

InMode's US terms leave consumables and accessories out of the 12-month System warranty and warrant them for "thirty (30) days" from shipment, while the warranty sections of the SkinPen Precision and SkinStylus manuals do not name cartridges.

For an InMode consumable, write down the shipment date from the invoice when the box arrives, because the 30-day term in InMode's terms runs from that date and not from the day you open the box. The Ulthera System manual Rev 05 (04-2024) adds, in chapter 4.2, that transducers damaged by a drop onto a hard surface or by a punctured membrane "are not covered by the warranty." See how to check a consumable on delivery.

Chapter "11. WARRANTY" of the SkinPen Precision manual PN#P5SP064.00, on page 11, does not name cartridges, needles or accessories; elsewhere the same manual describes a "Proprietary needle cartridge." The "Warranty Policy" section of the SkinStylus MD instructions 1900194-C speaks of "this product" and does not name cartridges either. If cartridge cover matters to your purchase, ask Crown Aesthetics or Hydrafacial in writing which document covers the cartridges you plan to buy.

Questions to ask before you buy outside the channel

Ask the seller for the document that covers the system and the date it runs from, because each warranty here starts from a purchase or shipment date and is given to the buyer the document names.

  1. Which manufacturer document covers this system, and which version or revision was current at the first sale?
  2. What is the date of the original purchase, or of the manufacturer's first shipment, and which invoice shows it?
  3. Who was the original purchaser, and does that name match the paperwork you will receive?
  4. Is any amount still owed to the manufacturer for the system (InMode's terms bar transfer while an amount on the System is owed)?
  5. Who unpacked, installed and serviced the device, and did the manufacturer authorize each of them?
  6. Was the device registered, when and in whose name (the SkinStylus instructions require registration within 30 days of purchase)?
  7. Do the accessories and parts come from the manufacturer or its authorized distributor, in the seller's own words and in writing?
  8. What does the seller call its own cover, and what does it exclude? A reseller listing read on September 23, 2026, from a seller that by its own description is not affiliated with the manufacturers, calls its cover a "30 Day Guarantee INCLUDED" and states it makes "no representations or warranties regarding the current or future availability of replacement parts."

Once you have the document version and the dates in writing, you can request a quote and read the offer against that paperwork.

FAQ

Where do I find the warranty terms for my device?

For the four devices covered here, the warranty sits in the manufacturer's terms of sale or in its instructions for use: Merz links its terms dated September 15, 2026 from its customer terms page, next to return policy PM1129-32, InMode publishes a US addendum at inmodemd.com/terms-us that is incorporated into its Customer Purchase Agreement, and Hydrafacial links the SkinStylus manual 1900194-C from its electronic instructions for use page (all read September 24, 2026). Crown Aesthetics hosts manual PN#P5SP064.00 for SkinPen Precision as a PDF on crownaesthetics.com, and that manual sends warranty inquiries to Crown Aesthetics Customer Service at 1.888.372.3982.

How quickly does Merz want a warranty event reported?

Section 8(D) of Merz's terms dated September 15, 2026 asks for a warranty event to be reported to Merz "within seventy-two (72) hours of the event in order for the event to be eligible." The heading of 8(D) is "Terms Applicable to Limited Warranty, Service Contract, and Out-of-Warranty Service." Record the date and hour of the event and report it to Merz in writing inside that window. When Merz replaces a unit, "Merz reserves the right to charge Customer list price for the replacement device" if the defective one is not returned as instructed.

What does "authorized" mean in these documents?

The word points to a different party or item in each document. In Merz's terms the authorized service provider is Merz itself. InMode's US addendum uses the word for its service representatives and, separately, for an "Authorized Practitioner," a practitioner licensed under state law, which is a term about the licensed buyer and not about the seller. The SkinPen Precision manual speaks of factory personnel and of authorization by Crown Aesthetics, and the SkinStylus instructions use it for a Hydrafacial distributor and for accessories.
