A needle cartridge is a single-use part. The FDA De Novo record for SkinPen Precision calls it a "sterile, disposable needle cartridge. Not to be resterilized or reused." The manufacturer's instructions say the same, so the price of one cartridge is the material cost of one treatment rather than a supply line spread over a month. On September 18, 2026 us.drpen.co, a store that describes itself as an authorized Dr. Pen distributor, published that number, $55.00 for ten, or $5.50 a cartridge. Neither professional cartridge had a price on the Crown Aesthetics products page or on Dp Derm's DP4 card. That page, from the maker of SkinPen Precision, showed no amount beside SkinPen on September 18, 20, 23 and 24, 2026, and the Dp Derm card showed no price on September 18, 20 and 23, while DermapenWorld's US accessories page listed its home-line cartridge at $110.00 for five on the same three dates. The gap follows from how each brand sells, and it sets how much of your running cost you can work out before signing.
What one cartridge costs, and why that is what one treatment costs
A cartridge is single-use on SkinPen, Dr. Pen and Dermapen, which the SkinPen instructions, the FDA De Novo record, DermapenWorld's US FAQ page and the Dr. Pen seller drpen.net each state in their own words, so the per-unit price of the part is the material cost of one treatment.
| Cartridge | US channel checked | Sold as | Price shown, Sep 18, 2026 | Price per cartridge | Needles |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Dr. Pen A6S 36-pin | us.drpen.co (authorized distributor, by its own description) | pack of 10 | $55.00 | $5.50 | 36 |
| Dermapen HOME | dermapenworld.com/en-us | box of 5 | $110.00 | $22.00 | 16 |
| Dermapen 4 (DP4) | Dp Derm (US) | box of 33 | Not shown, marked unavailable | Not shown | 16 at 33 gauge |
| SkinPen Precision | Crown Aesthetics | ask Crown Aesthetics | Not shown | Not shown | 14 |
The store at us.drpen.co, whose footer read "Authorised Distributors of Dr.Pen" on September 23, 2026, lists the A6S 36-pin cartridge in packs of ten at $55.00, or $5.50 for one, checked on September 18, 2026 on its A6S cartridge page. Since the part is single-use, that $5.50 divides no further. Ask a supplier for the per-cartridge figure, because a pack price means nothing until you know what is inside the pack.
DermapenWorld's US store lists the Dermapen HOME needle cartridge in boxes of five at $110.00, or $22.00 each, read the same day. HOME is the home line, and the professional Dermapen 4 cartridge was not among the two items on that page on September 23. In the US the DP4 part sits with Dp Derm, whose card showed a box of 33 with 16 needles at 33 gauge on September 18 and 23 and no price on September 18, 20 and 23, 2026, marked unavailable on the first date and "Sold out" on the other two. Only the per-cartridge column compares brands, and it carries a figure for the Dr. Pen part and for the home-line Dermapen part, not for either professional cartridge. For the SkinPen part on its own, see catalog numbers and pack sizes for SkinPen cartridges, and for more lines, cartridge cost across microneedling pens.
Why Crown Aesthetics and Dp Derm show no professional cartridge price
The Crown Aesthetics products page showed no amount on four reads and Dp Derm's DP4 card showed no price on three, and both brands put an identified buyer first, since the SkinPen manual carries the federal restriction on sale by or on the order of a physician and DermapenWorld routes professional inquiries through a partner application.
Every page below was first read on September 18, 2026, and later reads are dated in the line.
- The Crown Aesthetics products page lists SkinPen beside a "Become A Provider" link and showed no amount on September 18, 20, 23 and 24. Its starter package page lists the SkinPen device, Skinfuse and the ProGen PRP system (read September 24), so ask Crown Aesthetics what the package costs.
- SkinPen's provider page calls the system "only available to physician-directed practices" and showed no price on September 20, 23 and 24.
- The US Dermapen 4 page offers an inquiry form and a "Become a Professional Partner" route.
- DermapenWorld's partner page makes registering your interest the first step, as it did again on September 23.
- Dp Derm's DP4 page gives a box of 33 and 16 needles at 33 gauge, with no price on September 18, 20 and 23.
- Dp Derm describes itself as "Exclusive U.S. Distributor of Dermapen® and Dp Dermaceuticals™" and invites readers with "If you are a medical professional, join the Dp Derm network" (read September 23).
The SkinPen user manual states that "Federal law restricts this device to sale by or on the order of a physician", and SkinPen's provider page gives the regulatory description as a "Class II device, Regulation 878.4430, Product Code QAI". Ask Crown Aesthetics at what point in that process it quotes a cartridge price.
DermapenWorld reaches the same place through a partner application and a US distributor with an Authorized Treatment Provider network. Ask either for the per-unit price in the first email rather than the fifth.
What the purchase rules do to the number you can budget
Dr. Pen, whose A6S cartridge sells at $5.50 a unit at a self-described authorized distributor, is also the line whose seller's card sets its intended use at 22 years and older, and the two facts belong together, since a part carried by open sellers has to show a price to sell at all.
That store describes its product as "intended for use by individuals aged 22 years and older", and its card showed no license check and no practice account on September 18 and 23, 2026. Selling that way needs a public figure, because nobody adds an item to a basket blind. Work out which of the two models you are buying into before you compare pens.
A second market runs alongside the brand and distributor channels. On September 18, 2026 botoxon.com listed SkinPen cartridges in boxes of 12 at $95, 33 at $150 and 100 at $550, between $4.55 and $7.92 a unit, and the seller buydermapen.com quoted tips for the A6S at $79.00 per lot of fifty, $1.58 apiece. Those are those shops' prices on that day rather than the brands', so ask such a seller in writing whether it is authorized and what it checks before it ships.
Channel is also the first thing to settle when you weigh a shop-bought pen against one supplied through a partner program. The comparison you can make is between a store whose card sets its intended use at 22 years and older and a system its maker calls available only to physician-directed practices, and that route sets your material cost in year three. A pen is quoted once. A cartridge repeats for every face, priced by whoever controls the channel. The same per-part question applies to Morpheus8 tips and handpieces, and you can compare mechanical vs RF microneedling.
Needle count and depth do not settle the cost question
Thirty-six needles at $5.50 and fourteen needles with no amount on the Crown Aesthetics products page cannot be weighed against each other on needle count, because the figure that moves the annual bill is the unit price of a part thrown away after each session, not how many points sit on the tip.
The counts are public and they differ. The SkinPen manual gives 14 total solid needles, Dp Derm gives 16 at 33 gauge for the DP4 part, DermapenWorld gives 16 gamma-sterilized needles in the HOME cartridge, and the Dr. Pen part carries 36 pins. Sales units differ as widely, from packs of ten and boxes of five to boxes of 33 and the cases of 12 or 24 treatment kits that FDA device database records list under Bellus Medical. Dividing price by needle count buys nothing, because you buy a sealed part and use it once.
Comparison pages on these brand names, read on September 18, 2026, spend their space on parameters. CollagenPIN runs a section headed "Cost and Accessibility", Bruun Beauty answers eight buyer questions, and Sonderbeaut compares depth and supervision. One repeated number needs correcting against the source, because CollagenPIN quotes 0.25 to 2.5 mm for SkinPen while the maker's instructions give a maximum of 1.5 mm on the face and 2.5 mm on the neck, a per-region limit rather than one span.
What to ask before you commit to a pen
Settle the cartridge side before the device leaves the demo stage, because the figures run from $5.50 a cartridge at us.drpen.co to no price shown for either professional cartridge on the Crown Aesthetics products page and Dp Derm's DP4 card, and that spread, not the price of the handpiece, sets what you spend for every face you treat.
- Ask for the price of one cartridge and the box price on the same quote line.
- Get the unit of sale in writing, because tens, fives, boxes of 33 and cases of 24 kits compare only after division.
- Ask how many cartridges your protocol uses in one session, since the single-use rule fixes the floor at one.
- Count how many sellers carry the identical part, because one source sets your renewal price and several do not.
- Ask what the purchase conditions are, and what happens to supply if your practice stops meeting them.
- Ask which generation of handpiece the cartridge fits, by reference number, and file the reply.
- Ask how long the quoted price holds and how much notice precedes a change.
- Ask whether cartridges come with the pen or on a separate order, the way a Face Med Store blog post read on September 18, 2026 gives the Dr. Pen A7 at $215.00 and advises "Stock single-use Dr. Pen cartridges separately."
If you are weighing other pens as well, see SkinPen compared with Rejuvapen, MicroPen and SkinStylus.
Work through it with whoever quotes the device, and keep the replies beside the per-cartridge figures above. If you want the consumable side priced in writing before the pen goes on order, request a quote on cartridges.
FAQ
How many treatments does one cartridge cover?
One, on every pen named here. On SkinPen, the manual adds "a lock-out feature prohibiting re-installation" of a spent cartridge. DermapenWorld says it in text for every consumable, and a store selling Dr. Pen parts writes that "microneedling cartridges are designed for single use only."
How do I know if my Dr. Pen cartridges are genuine?
Put the shop's unit figure beside a branded listing before anything else. Ten 36-pin A6S cartridges cost $55.00 on September 18, 2026 at the Dr. Pen seller whose footer names it an authorized distributor, while fifty tips listed as "Dr Pen A6S Micro Needle Tips" at $79.00 by buydermapen.com on the same day work out near a third of that apiece. A gap that wide points to a different supply route, so ask who makes the part and whether the shop holds authorization.
Can I put another brand's cartridge in my pen?
Check fit model by model, not brand by brand. DermapenWorld's accessories page states that its HOME needle cartridge is not suitable for myDermapen, two products from one maker, which shows how narrow compatibility runs inside a single catalog. Ask whoever warrants the handpiece to confirm the reference in writing before a case is on order.
